    • A Stop and wait for a steady green arrow
    • B Prepare to stop because the light will turn red
    • C Turn left after yielding to oncoming traffic
    • D Turn left; oncoming traffic has a red light

    C. Turn left after yielding to oncoming traffic

A flashing yellow arrow lets you turn, but oncoming traffic has a green light at the same time, so you must yield. For left turns it means the same as a solid green light.

  4. A police officer is directing traffic at an intersection where the signal is green for you. The officer holds up one hand, palm toward you, and gives a long whistle blast. What should you do?

    • A Stop, because officers override signals
    • B Continue, because the light is green
    • C Turn right to get out of the officer's way
    • D Slow down and proceed with caution
    Show answer

    A. Stop, because officers override signals

When an officer directs traffic, you must follow the officer instead of the signs and signals. An upraised palm with a long whistle blast means stop; a wave with short blasts means go.
