A permit supervisor must hold a valid regular license, not a probationary or occupational one, and have two years of experience. An occupational license is a restricted privilege, so it does not qualify someone to coach a learner.
Wisconsin Motorists' Handbook, page 9During hours of darkness, a permit holder must be accompanied by a qualified instructor or a licensed person at least 25 with two years of experience. Night driving is harder, so Wisconsin requires a more experienced supervisor.
Wisconsin Motorists' Handbook, page 9If you are at least 16, one other licensed person 25 or older with at least two years of experience may sit in a seat other than the front seat. Immediate family may also ride in back when a parent, guardian or spouse is supervising.
Wisconsin Motorists' Handbook, page 9Adults 18 and older must hold the instruction permit at least seven days before getting a probationary license. Teens under 18 must wait six months and complete supervised hours.
Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Division of Motor Vehicles websiteApplicants under 18 must have received no traffic tickets for the six months before applying for a probationary license. A ticket effectively restarts that clock.
Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Division of Motor Vehicles websiteThe online test can be attempted only twice. If both attempts fail, the teen is directed to a DMV service center to take the test a third time.
Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Division of Motor Vehicles websiteA habitual traffic offender has four or more major violations or 12 or more minor violations within five years. The driving privilege is then revoked for five years.
Wisconsin Motorists' Handbook, page 57An occupational license lets a driver who lost their privilege drive up to 12 hours a day and 60 hours a week for work, school and household needs. Proof of financial responsibility is required.
