  • In the first six months a newly licensed teen may carry only a driving instructor, a parent or guardian, or one qualified adult. During months seven through twelve, members of the immediate family are added to the list.

  • If you are blind in one eye, your other eye must see at least 20/40 and have a visual field of at least 100 degrees. Drivers with one eye can be safe but must rely more on head movements and mirrors.

State of Connecticut Driver's Manual, page 7
  • A first conviction for a graduated license violation, such as breaking the curfew or passenger limits, brings a 30-day suspension plus a $175 restoration fee and court fines. Later offenses bring 6 months or until age 18, whichever is longer.

State of Connecticut Driver's Manual, page 36
  • An adult who fails the BAC test must install an ignition interlock device for at least six months, longer with prior offenses. Refusing the test, or being under 21 and testing .02% or higher, requires at least one year.

State of Connecticut Driver's Manual, page 35
  • Someone under 18 cannot be treated as a youthful offender for negligent homicide with a vehicle, evading responsibility after a crash causing death or serious injury, or driving under the influence. These serious offenses are handled more strictly.

State of Connecticut Driver's Manual, page 37
  • Teen cell phone violations bring a 30-day suspension for the first offense, 90 days for the second, and 6 months for the third, each with a $175 restoration fee. The rising penalties reflect how dangerous phone use is for new drivers.

State of Connecticut Driver's Manual, page 36
  • Drivers 25 and older must attend operator retraining after three or more moving or suspension violations. Younger drivers must attend after only two, because new drivers have higher crash risk.

State of Connecticut Driver's Manual, page 37
  • A teen's first conviction for speeding 20 mph over the limit brings a 60-day suspension, then 90 days and 6 months for later offenses. A $175 restoration fee applies each time.
