Vermont defines nighttime driving as the period from 30 minutes after sunset to 30 minutes before sunrise. This matches the headlight law, which also uses a half hour on each side of sunset and sunrise.
Vermont Driver's Manual (VN-007), page 14Vermont law says the 40 practice hours must be in addition to the 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training in driver education. Instructor time does not count toward the 40 hours a parent certifies.
Vermont Driver's Manual (VN-007), page 15During the second three months of a Junior Driver's License, you may also carry family members; the DMV manual describes them as siblings and parents (23 V.S.A. § 614(c) says "family members"). After six months the passenger limit ends, but never carry more passengers than seat belts.
Vermont Driver's Manual (VN-007), page 22Carrying passengers for hire is a junior operator violation that brings a 90-day recall of the Junior Driver's License. While a recall is in effect, you cannot get a Junior or full license.
Vermont Driver's Manual (VN-007), page 22Junior operator texting brings a 30-day recall, and it also comes with fines of at least $100 and at least two points on your record. Vermont treats phone use by new drivers as a serious risk.
Vermont Driver's Manual (VN-007), page 22A junior operator's permit or license is recalled for 90 days for a single 3-point speeding violation or 6 points in total. New drivers face a much lower threshold than adults.
Vermont Driver's Manual (VN-007), page 22Passing a stopped school bus with its red lights flashing costs 5 points on your Vermont record, one of the heaviest point penalties. It also brings a substantial fine.
Vermont Driver's Manual (VN-007), page 65All motor vehicles must be inspected within 15 days of registration unless they already have a valid Vermont inspection sticker. After that, inspection is yearly.
