How the Nebraska road test is scored
15marks max
Each error is a check mark (mark) on the examiner's tablet. Minor general-driving errors count 2 marks and major ones 8 marks. A passing score is 15 marks or less; more than 15 fails. Any automatic-failure item fails and ends the test. Official source 4dmv.nebraska.gov“Each indication of poor driving skills during this test will be represented by a check mark. Check off each “error” made during the test on the tablet. If the total amounts to more than 15 points (marks), the applicant will fail”“Will be calculated automatically on the drive test tablet. A passing score is 15 marks or less.”“There are four areas of General Driving Behavior to be scored as two marks for each improper behavior. Maneuvers on the Nebraska driving test
Steps and scoring come from Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles’s own materials, in their words where possible. Where a state publishes no steps, we say so rather than guess.
Entering and starting
Always tested
How it’s scored
Entering: driver properly uses seat belt; adjusts seat and mirrors. Starting: properly starts the vehicle (clutch depressed if manual), selects proper gear, checks mirrors and looks in all directions, and accelerates smoothly into traffic.
Steps
Not officially described by DMV.

Angle, parallel or perpendicular parking
Always tested

Steps
Not officially described by DMV.

Left turns (three scored)
Always tested
How it’s scored
Traffic check and right of way; signal, smooth deceleration without coasting, proper lane; not over the stop line, full stop without rolling; grip with both hands, smooth speed; turn not wide or cut short and finishing in the proper lane; traffic check and smooth acceleration.
Steps
Not officially described by DMV.

Right turns (three scored)
Always tested
How it’s scored
Scored the same way as left turns: traffic check, signal, deceleration, lane, stop line, full stop, hand position, speed, turn path and acceleration.
Steps
Not officially described by DMV.

Intersections (two stop, two through)
Always tested
How it’s scored
Traffic check (head movements, eye contact, mirrors); proper braking without coasting; stopping behind the stop line, crosswalk or sidewalk and far enough back to see the rear tires of the car ahead; yielding; smooth acceleration without stalling.
Steps
Not officially described by DMV.

Skills the examiner watches the whole time
Urban driving

Notes from our check
Nebraska does not publish the drive-test score sheet itself (it is kept electronically on the examiner's tablet), but the DMV's Driver Licensing Policies and Procedures Manual (examiner manual) gives the scored maneuvers, the scoring standards and the 15-mark pass line. The individual items under the 2-mark and 8-mark General Driving Behavior sections are not listed. The examiner manual says not every maneuver can be tested on every route. In Bellevue, Lincoln and Omaha drive tests are by appointment only (handbook). Test length is not published.
