Turning vehicles yield to pedestrians sign
When turning, yield to pedestrians crossing the street you are turning onto.
MUTCD designation R10-15. See the federal MUTCD, page 173.
How to read signs like this
Regulatory signs tell you what the law requires: stop, yield, speed limits, turns and lanes. Most are white rectangles with black or red. Red means stop, yield or a prohibition; a red circle with a slash means “no”.
Practice question
You are turning at a traffic signal and see this sign. What must you do?
- A Let people crossing the street you are turning onto go first
- B Yield only to cars that are turning from the opposite direction
- C Turn only when a green turn arrow is lit
- D Wait for the walk signal before you turn
Show answer
A. Let people crossing the street you are turning onto go first
Turning drivers often watch for gaps in traffic and miss pedestrians in the crosswalk they are turning across. This sign is used where those conflicts might not be obvious. Even on green, people already in the crosswalk have the right-of-way.
