Do not block intersection sign
Do not enter the intersection unless there is room to get all the way through it.
MUTCD designation R10-7. See the federal MUTCD, page 171.
How to read signs like this
Regulatory signs tell you what the law requires: stop, yield, speed limits, turns and lanes. Most are white rectangles with black or red. Red means stop, yield or a prohibition; a red circle with a slash means “no”.
Practice question
What does this word sign require of you?
- A Do not enter the intersection unless you can clear it
- B Do not stop on the shoulder at this intersection
- C Stop behind the white line when the signal is red
- D Through traffic may not use this intersection during rush hours
Show answer
A. Do not enter the intersection unless you can clear it
If traffic is backed up beyond an intersection, entering on green can leave you stuck in the middle and block cross traffic. This sign reminds you to wait until there is room on the far side. Keeping the box clear lets other movements and emergency vehicles get through.
