Bike lane sign
Marks a lane reserved for bicyclists. Do not drive or park in it except where crossing is allowed.
MUTCD designation R3-17. See the federal MUTCD, page 26.
How to read signs like this
Regulatory signs tell you what the law requires: stop, yield, speed limits, turns and lanes. Most are white rectangles with black or red. Red means stop, yield or a prohibition; a red circle with a slash means “no”.
Practice question
What does this sign posted beside a lane mean?
- A Bicycles are not allowed on this road
- B This marked lane is for bicycles, not for cars
- C Bicycles and cars share the full lane side by side
- D A bike path crosses the road just ahead
Show answer
B. This marked lane is for bicycles, not for cars
This white regulatory sign is used only with a lane marked for bicycles. Do not drive or park in the bike lane except where your state's law allows you to enter or cross it, such as to turn. Check the lane before you turn right across it and yield to bicyclists in it.
