No turns sign
No turns in either direction; continue straight.
MUTCD designation R3-3. See the federal MUTCD, page 129.
How to read signs like this
Regulatory signs tell you what the law requires: stop, yield, speed limits, turns and lanes. Most are white rectangles with black or red. Red means stop, yield or a prohibition; a red circle with a slash means “no”.
Practice question
What does this sign tell you at an intersection?
- A You may not turn while the traffic light is showing red
- B You may not make a U-turn here
- C You may not turn right or left; continue straight
- D You may turn only when a green arrow shows
Show answer
C. You may not turn right or left; continue straight
This word sign bans both right and left turns from the approach. Because it covers both directions, it is usually posted in two places, where right-turning and left-turning drivers will each see it. Go straight and find another way to reach a street on either side.
