Do not enter sign

Regulatory signs

Do not enter sign

You may not enter this road or ramp from this direction. It usually marks the wrong end of a one-way road or exit ramp.

MUTCD designation R5-1. See the federal MUTCD, page 7.

How to read signs like this

Regulatory signs tell you what the law requires: stop, yield, speed limits, turns and lanes. Most are white rectangles with black or red. Red means stop, yield or a prohibition; a red circle with a slash means “no”.

    • A Traffic on this road flows one way, to your right

    • C You must not drive onto this road from where you are

    Show answer

    C. You must not drive onto this road from where you are

Red on a sign means stop or prohibition, and this red circle with a white bar forbids entry. It is placed where a driver could wrongly enter a one-way road, a divided highway or a freeway ramp. If you see it facing you, do not enter; find another route.
