Wrong way sign

Regulatory signs

Wrong way sign

You are traveling against traffic on a one-way road or ramp. Stop, pull over safely and turn around.

MUTCD designation R5-1a. See the federal MUTCD, page 7.

How to read signs like this

Regulatory signs tell you what the law requires: stop, yield, speed limits, turns and lanes. Most are white rectangles with black or red. Red means stop, yield or a prohibition; a red circle with a slash means “no”.

    Show answer

    D. You are going against traffic and must safely turn around

This red rectangle is placed farther along a one-way road or ramp than the red DO NOT ENTER sign. Seeing it means you are traveling against traffic. Pull over safely, turn around when it is safe, and leave the way you came.
