Road test (skills test) for a regular Class D license
South Carolina Road Test (2026)What’s on the Driving Test, Scoring & Tips
An SCDMV employee (or an SCDMV-authorized third-party tester) checks your vehicle's basic safety features, then rides with you on the road. You may be asked to parallel park, back 100 feet in a straight line, park on a hill, do a three-point turnaround, change lanes and identify road signs. Not wearing your seat belt is an automatic failure. SCDMV does not publish a point system.

Maneuvers on the South Carolina driving test
Steps and scoring come from South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles’s own materials, in their words where possible. Where a state publishes no steps, we say so rather than guess.
You show the basic safety features: turn on headlights, wipers, turn signals and four-way flashers, and test the brake lights.
Steps
Not officially described by SCDMV.

Notes from our check
No official score sheet or point system is published, and the only stated automatic failure is not wearing a seat belt. The web page and the manual list slightly different tasks: both list parallel parking, 100-foot straight-line backing, hill parking, a three-point turnaround, lane changes, turns and road sign identification. The manual also lists reverse and forward two-point turnabouts and interstate driving ('you could be required to'), and the web page lists both '100 feet backing' and 'Straight line backing'. The manual's 'SC Code §561-15' citation for random re-tests is printed that way (likely §56-1-15).
