  1. Your car begins to skid on a wet road. What should you do?

    • A Brake hard and hold the wheel straight
    • B Steer sharply the opposite way
    • C Speed up to regain traction
    • D Ease off the gas and steer where you want to go
    Show answer

In a skid, take your foot off the gas, avoid braking if possible, and turn the front tires in the direction you want to go. Smooth steering lets the tires grip again.

  3. Your car has anti-lock brakes (ABS). How should you brake in an emergency?

    • A Pump the brake pedal quickly
    • B Press lightly and then release
    • C Press hard, hold the pedal down and steer
    • D Shift into neutral and coast
    Show answer

    C. Press hard, hold the pedal down and steer

With ABS, press down hard on the brake, hold it, and steer out of danger; the system pumps the brakes faster than you can. Pumping or letting up on the pedal disengages the ABS.

  4. You have a minor crash with no injuries, and your car is blocking traffic. What does Florida law require?

    • A Leave it exactly where it is until police arrive
    • B Leave the scene and report the crash later
    • C Move the car, or have it moved, out of the way
    • D Wait for the other driver to move first
    Show answer

    C. Move the car, or have it moved, out of the way

If the crash is minor and your vehicle is blocking traffic, you must move it or have it moved. Clearing the lanes prevents secondary crashes; take photos and exchange information once you are safe.
