Uncontrolled intersection with no signs or signals: you and a car on your right arrive togetherYouNo signs or signals

You and another driver reach an intersection with no signs or signals at the same time. The other driver is on your right. Who should go first?

    • A You, because you are on the left
    • B The driver on your right
    • C Whoever is going faster
    • D Whoever is driving the larger vehicle
    Show answer

    B. The driver on your right

When two drivers arrive at an intersection at the same time, yield to the driver on your right. The same rule applies at a four-way stop. Even then, never assume you have the right-of-way; make sure the other driver is yielding.

  2. You stop at a T intersection, where your road ends at a through road. Who has the right-of-way?

    • A Drivers already on the through road
    • B You, because you stopped first
    • C Whoever is on the right
    • D Whoever reaches the intersection first

    A. Drivers already on the through road

At a T intersection you must yield to drivers already on the road you are entering. They have nowhere else to go, while you can wait for a safe gap.

  3. You approach a traffic circle (roundabout) and there are no vehicles in it. What should you do?

    • A Come to a full stop before entering
    • B Wait for a vehicle to pass first
    • C Enter without waiting, after checking for pedestrians
    • D Sound your horn to warn others, then enter the circle
    Show answer

    C. Enter without waiting, after checking for pedestrians

Roads leading to traffic circles have yield signs, so you must yield to traffic already in the circle and to pedestrians in the crosswalk. If no traffic is in the circle, you do not need to wait to enter.

  4. A funeral procession is crossing an intersection, and you have a green light. What must you do?

    • A Go, because the green light gives you the right-of-way
    • B Go after the lead car has crossed
    • C Honk to warn the procession and proceed
    • D Yield until all vehicles in the procession have passed
    Show answer

    D. Yield until all vehicles in the procession have passed

Even with a green signal, other drivers must yield to vehicles in a funeral procession until all of them have passed, unless they can safely proceed without crossing its path. Procession vehicles use headlights and hazard lights so you can identify them.
