    B. Both the operator and any passenger

Nebraska's helmet law covers motorcycle and moped operators and their passengers, and the helmet must meet U.S. Department of Transportation standards. Under the 2023-2024 changes to the law, an operator may skip the helmet only if 21 or older and either has filed proof of the required MSF course with the DMV or holds another state's motorcycle license; a passenger may skip it only if 21 or older and riding with such an operator.

  2. There are parked cars and other hazards only on your left. Which lane position does the manual suggest?

    • A Always path 1, because it is every rider's default position
    • B Straddle the left lane line
    • C Path 1, the left portion of the lane
    • D Path 2 or 3, the center or right portion of the lane
    Show answer

    D. Path 2 or 3, the center or right portion of the lane

Each lane gives a motorcycle three paths of travel. If vehicles or other problems are on your left only, ride in path 2 or 3; if they are on your right only, use path 1 or 2. Moving away from the hazard builds a bigger space cushion.

  3. During your T-CLOCS check, what should the throttle do when you release it?

    • A Stay where you left it until you roll it back
    • B Slowly drift back over several seconds
    • C Snap back to fully closed
    • D Return halfway, to a fast idle position
    Show answer

    C. Snap back to fully closed

As part of the Controls check, make sure the clutch and throttle work smoothly and that the throttle snaps back to fully closed when released. A throttle that does not close on its own can keep the engine pulling when you need to slow down.
