Sample questions

  1. About how much of a motorcycle's total stopping power can the front brake provide?

    • A About 50%
    • B 70% or more
    • C Less than the rear brake does
    • D About 25%
    Show answer

    B. 70% or more

The front brake can provide 70% or more of your total stopping power. When you brake, weight shifts forward onto the front tire, giving it more traction, so failing to use the front brake leaves most of your stopping power unused.

  2. At intersections, which vehicles does the manual identify as among the biggest dangers to motorcyclists?

    • A Bicycles waiting at the crosswalk
    • B Large trucks going straight through on green
    • C Cars turning left in front of you
    • D Cars directly behind you waiting at a red light
    Show answer

    C. Cars turning left in front of you

Over half of motorcycle/car crashes are caused by drivers violating a rider's right-of-way. Cars that turn left in front of you, including from the lane on your right, and cars on side streets pulling into your lane are the biggest dangers.

    Show answer

    A. Ease off the throttle and gradually brake with the front tire

  4. What is the penalty for violating Nebraska's motorcycle helmet law?

    • A An infraction with a $250 fine
    • B An infraction with a $50 fine
    • C A misdemeanor with a $500 fine
    • D A 30-day suspension of your motorcycle license
    Show answer

    A. An infraction with a $250 fine

Under Neb. Rev. Stat. 60-6,282, breaking the helmet or eye-protection law is an infraction with a $250 fine for each violation. Police enforce it only as a secondary action, when you are stopped for something else. The motorcycle manual's $50 figure is out of date.
