  1. What colors are warning signs in a work zone?

    • A Yellow and black
    • B Red and white
    • C Orange and black
    • D Green and white
    Show answer

    C. Orange and black

Work zones are marked with orange signs, cones, drums, barricades or arrow panels. Warning signs in a work zone are orange and black, so orange should always tell you to slow down and stay alert.

    • A Only flaggers holding a STOP sign
    • B No one, if you are within the posted speed

  3. You reach a work zone with a "Road Closed to Thru Traffic" sign. You live outside the area and are only driving through. What should you do?

    • A Follow the detour, since only local traffic may enter
    • B Drive through carefully, because the road is not fully closed
    • C Move the barrier aside and continue
    • D Wait at the sign until a worker lets you pass
    Show answer

    A. Follow the detour, since only local traffic may enter

"Road Closed to Thru Traffic" or "Local Traffic Only" means the zone is open to people with a reason to stop inside it, such as residents or businesses. Continuous trips through are prohibited, so follow the signs around the zone.

  4. Can you use Idaho's passing speed exception, going up to 15 mph over the limit, to pass in a work zone?

    • A Yes, if the work zone is on a two-lane rural road
    • B No, the exception does not apply in work zones
    • C Yes, if no workers are present at the time
    • D Yes, but only up to 10 mph over
    Show answer

    B. No, the exception does not apply in work zones

Idaho's passing exception lets some vehicles exceed the limit by up to 15 mph to pass on two-lane roads posted 55 or higher, but it does not apply in work zones. Work zone limits must be obeyed, and speeding there carries enhanced penalties.
