Curve sign
A curve to the right ahead. Slow down before you reach it.
MUTCD designation W1-2R. See the federal MUTCD, page 194.
How to read signs like this
Warning signs are usually yellow diamonds. They tell you about a hazard or change ahead (curves, intersections, merges, slippery roads) so you can slow down before you get there.
Practice question
What does this sign warn you about on the road ahead?
- A A sharp right-angle turn ahead
- B A curve right, then back to the left
- C The right lane ends ahead
- D A curve to the right ahead
Show answer
D. A curve to the right ahead
The bending arrow shows the direction of the curve. A curve sign is the standard warning before a bend unless a sharper or more complex alignment calls for a different symbol. If there is a speed plaque below it, slow to that speed before the curve.
