Side road sign
A road joins from the right ahead. Watch for vehicles entering.
MUTCD designation W2-2R. See the federal MUTCD, page 219.
How to read signs like this
Warning signs are usually yellow diamonds. They tell you about a hazard or change ahead (curves, intersections, merges, slippery roads) so you can slow down before you get there.
Practice question
What does this sign warn drivers about?
- A Your road ends at a junction ahead, and you must turn either way
- B A road joins from the right, so watch for entering cars
- C A full cross road is just ahead
- D Traffic in the right lane must turn right
Show answer
B. A road joins from the right, so watch for entering cars
The symbol shows your road as the long line and the side road as a short branch on the side where it joins. Vehicles may pull out from that side, sometimes without seeing you. Be ready to slow or move over if it is safe.
