Two-way traffic sign
The road ahead carries traffic in both directions. Stay right.
MUTCD designation W6-3. See the federal MUTCD, page 9.
How to read signs like this
Warning signs are usually yellow diamonds. They tell you about a hazard or change ahead (curves, intersections, merges, slippery roads) so you can slow down before you get there.
Practice question
What does this sign mean for the road ahead?
- A There will be two lanes going in your direction just ahead
- B A divided highway begins ahead
- C Slower traffic should keep to the right
- D Traffic ahead will travel in both directions on this road
Show answer
D. Traffic ahead will travel in both directions on this road
One arrow up and one down means two-way traffic. It is posted where a divided or one-way road becomes a two-way road. From here on, the next vehicle you meet may be coming straight at you, so stay right.
