How to read signs like this
Warning signs are usually yellow diamonds. They tell you about a hazard or change ahead (curves, intersections, merges, slippery roads) so you can slow down before you get there.
Practice question
What hazard does this sign warn about?
- A A winding road with many curves for the next few miles
- B Loose gravel is on the road surface
- C Pavement that may be slippery, especially when wet
- D The road ahead is rough and broken
Show answer
C. Pavement that may be slippery, especially when wet
The car with wavy tire tracks means slippery conditions you might not expect. Slow down, avoid hard braking, and leave more following distance when it is wet. A plaque may name the cause, such as ice or oil.
