What does a flashing yellow arrow for left turns mean?

    • A You may turn left but must yield to oncoming traffic
    • B Oncoming traffic is stopped, so you may turn freely
    • C You must stop and wait for a green arrow
    • D Left turns are prohibited until the arrow changes to steady green
    Show answer

    A. You may turn left but must yield to oncoming traffic

A flashing yellow arrow lets you turn left, but the turn is unprotected: yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians. Only a green arrow means oncoming traffic is stopped.

  4. At a steady red light in Texas, when may you turn left after stopping?

    • A Never; left turns on red are always illegal
    • B When turning from a one-way street onto another one-way street, unless prohibited
    • C Whenever no oncoming traffic is visible
    • D Only when a police officer is present
    Show answer

    B. When turning from a one-way street onto another one-way street, unless prohibited

At a steady red, after a full stop, you may turn right, or turn left if both streets are one-way, unless a sign prohibits it. You must still yield to pedestrians and other traffic.
