Uncontrolled intersection with no signs or signals: you and a car on your right arrive togetherYouNo signs or signals

You reach an intersection with no signs or signals at the same time as, or slightly before, a car approaching from your right. Under Wyoming's rule, who yields?

    • A The car on your right must yield, because you reached it first
    • B Whichever driver is going faster goes first
    • C You yield to the car on your right, even if you arrived first
    • D Whoever is going straight goes before anyone turning

    C. You yield to the car on your right, even if you arrived first

Where there are no signs or signals, you must watch for any driver coming from your right and yield, regardless of who first reaches and enters the intersection. Remember that laws only say who must yield; never insist on the right of way.

  2. At an intersection with no signs or signals, you want to turn left. One car approaches from your right and another is coming straight toward you from the opposite direction. Whom must you yield to?

    • A Only the car on your right
    • B Only the oncoming car
    • C Neither of them, as long as you signalled your turn first
    • D Both the car on your right and the oncoming car
    Show answer

    D. Both the car on your right and the oncoming car

The manual's diagram shows that a driver turning left at an uncontrolled intersection yields both to the vehicle on the right and to oncoming traffic. Left turns cross the most lanes of traffic, so the turning driver waits.

  3. At a four-way stop, which driver should normally be allowed to go first?

    • A The driver on the busiest street
    • B The driver who stopped first
    • C The driver in the largest vehicle
    • D The driver who is going straight
    Show answer

    B. The driver who stopped first

At a four-way stop, courtesy requires that the driver who stops first goes first. If two drivers arrive together or you are unsure, yield to the driver on your right, and never insist on going if it risks a crash.

  4. You enter an intersection while going over the speed limit. What happens to any right of way you would have had?

    • A You keep it, since speed is a separate violation
    • B You keep it only if you are on the main road
    • C You forfeit it
    • D You keep it as long as you sound your horn
    Show answer

    C. You forfeit it

If you enter an intersection while violating the speed law, you forfeit any right of way you might have had. Other drivers judge gaps by normal speeds, so a speeding car arrives sooner than they expect.
